'Are you dog-friendly?' Bringing your dog to Yorkshire Lavender

'Can I bring my dog?' is one of the most frequently asked questions we get asked throughout the season and we're always pleased to answer that 'yes, you absolutely can'.

Well-behaved dogs are allowed in the shop, plant nursery, and a dedicated dog-friendly area of the Tea Room. They can also accompany you through the gardens, as long as they are kept on a lead.

We have plenty of outdoor space for you to explore during your visit so do feel free to bring your dogs and let them stretch their legs with you.

As we get ready behind the scenes for the 2026 season, here's a few things to keep in mind ahead of your visit this year!

Tips and things to keep in mind when bringing a dog to Yorkshire Lavender

Getting the perfect pooch pic!

As you can see, our four-legged friends are the perfect subject for a lavender photoshoot! if you're looking to capture a similar snap for your memories, do keep in mind that the lavender is at it's best in July and August.

However, photoshoots aside, the gardens still offer tonnes of enrichment for your dog whatever the weather, with loads of sights, sounds and smells to explore!

Avoiding peak times for anxious dogs

During the season it can get busy in the shop, with lots of folks buying tickets, many of whom bring dogs and have children - both eager to get outside and explore. This means we do have moments when it can get a little crowded and noisy in the shop. We do our best to serve guest quickly and keep things moving, but if you have an anxious dog who doesn't enjoy these kinds of environments, you may prefer to wait until it's a little quieter, buy tickets online in advance, or send a companion in for your tickets first, so you can come through quickly.

Dogs and lavender. Is it safe?

While lavender has many wonderful properties that can be beneficial to humans, you may wonder if the same can be said for our canine companions.

Lavender contains small amounts of a compound called 'Lanalool' which can be toxic to dogs. However, it takes a very large quantity of this to become harmful. So, walking about and having a good sniff should be absolutely fine - and may even be as pleasant and relaxing for them as it is for us. Just keep an eye on your pets to make sure they don't start munching on bunches of purple flowers!

When can you visit?

We'll be open 1st April to 31st August. We're open 10am - 5pm, 7 days a week. We do host events and workshops through the year - do keep an eye on our social media, blog and events page for updates,
